Black Like Me

So if Bill Clinton was the first Black President, why can't I be considered a Black voter? I'm guessing being a registered Democrat on the South side of I-630 has made me just that in the eyes of some eager get-out-the-voters. I've gotten no less than three phone calls (one from Bill himself!) reminding me how important the Black vote is and urging me--as a Black voter--to get to the polls Tuesday and vote Democratic. No problem, Bill... I'm all over it.

When teaching a Freshman Comp class at UCA a few years ago, I had the class take one of those "Are you liberal or conservative" surveys as a starting point for a reading/discussion. The questionaire asked for opinions on a wide variety of "political issues." It turns out I was by far the most liberal person in the room. The survey put me as far left as you could go, right next to Jesse Jackson. So there you have it.

Since we're talking about race, check this out.

Look here, Dylan... We're having a watch party at our crib. Come on.

I know what you mean about over at 10. Wouldn't that be something. If only. . .

Angela stood in line for FOUR HOURS Saturday to vote. I'm taking a double americano, a sandwich, and a good book with me tomorrow morning.

Did you watch Frontline on PBS last night? It was a documentary on John Kerry and George Bush. If George Bush weren't a republican the religious right would have SO much to bash him for. And we all know that if his last name were not Bush he would have never become president.
Anyway, Oklahoma is the only state that won't have the man I want to vote for on the ballot. And we're one of five states that won't allow right in votes....Stephen and I found that out when we tried to vote for Jay for governor.

Tuesday--

Your implied idealism is noble and all, but it's time for pragmatism. The only way to get Bush out of office is to vote for you-know-who. I promise democrats aren't nearly as scary as you've been told!

No Jason, I haven't been told that democrats are scary, just that they are EVIL. A vote for Kerry is a vote for the Devil, according to my father-in-law...pretty scary huh? I voted for some democrats and some republicans and I voted yes for some state questions, that according to Mr. Z would send me straight to hell.
